Disintegrating Roadways & Falling Boulders!

Inclement weather conditions experienced over two days, May 10 and 11 had some parts of the Territory on pause, resulting from flooding, erosion and fallen boulders and rocks.

This was especially the case on the sister island of Virgin Gorda.

Imagine driving and the road starts to collapse beside you!

That was the case of the driver who captured this amateur video. Appalled by the state of the North Sound Highway this driver decided to roll his camera and did not realize the danger of what was unfolding along the route until reviewing the video hours later.

Now this is more than a sound enough reason for the territory to be put on alert.

Heavy rains, thunderstorms and lightening were the order of the day, especially on May 10 and 11 as it caused flooding which forced the closure of some businesses; falling boulders posing serious threats to lives and limbs and erosions compromising the integrity of roadways – all in Virgin Gorda at the Valley and North Sound.

According to the Department of Disaster management (DDM), persons need to be extremely cautious at this time as the inclement weather conditions come as the hurricane season approaches.

The advice of DDM is not only for the Virgin Gorda Community but the entire British Virgin Islands. The poor weather condition are likely to continue into the hurricane season which starts in a few weeks.
