Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour, Dr. Kedrick Pickering says too many young people in the territory are seen idling on a daily basis. Speaking at the opening ceremony for the Third District Committee Job and Career Fair at the Valerie O. Thomas Community Centre on Thursday (January 31), Dr. Pickering relayed his own experiences that involved some fourteen years of university studies, as part of his own career development. He used the opportunity to encourage young persons seeking to pursue careers to be guided by their passion and not simply monetary gain. Dr. Pickering also acknowledged a history of political battles between him and his political arch rival. However, he lauded the Third District Representative, Julian Fraser and members of the Third District Committee for staging a Career and Job Fair, which seeks to alleviate the unemployment situation in the 3rd district. JTVNEWS spoke to Acting Labour Commissioner Janice Rymer, to establish the objectives of the Employment Services Unit. The Acting Labour Commissioner said the Employment Services Unit has had significant traffic since the department launched a communications campaign that includes publication of vacancies in the Territory. Several Businesses, including Lime, The BVI Electricity Corporation, BVI Yacht Sales, Nanny Cay Resort Marina, Delta Petroleum and the Food Store, among others, participated in the Third District Committee Job and Career Fair.
