Over 20 Artists to Showcase Cultural Art Forms at Art Festival [VIDEO]

A Festival of Arts event is slated to be held on February 10 to March 15 for the first time in the history of this territory. The Festival of Arts will showcase of the creative work of more than 20 artists representing the visual, performing and culinary arts.

Speaking at a Media launch on Thursday January 31, 2013, Premier Dr. Orlando Smith described the event as “a vision designed to evoke a sense of national pride. The Premier also noted that the Festival of Arts is a showcase that will go a long way in improving the local tourism product by introducing cultural activities to entertain visitors to the territory.

The event is being spearheaded by Fifth District Representative Delores Christopher. In her remarks, Ms. Christopher expressed gratitude to the participating artists, the organizing committee and Government for their collaborative efforts to make the event a success. She said the Festival of Arts seeks to uncover hidden talents and untapped gifts in persons.

The Festival of Arts is also viewed as an added value to the BVI’s tourism product. The activity will take the form of four major events and is supported by the Department of Culture and the BVI Tourist Board.

The opening ceremony for the Festival of Arts will be held on Sunday, February 10 at 4:00 p.m. at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall.

The activities will take place between February 10 to March 15 and will include A Taste of BVI Culinary Art’ at the 1780 Lower Estate Sugar Works Museum.; a play highlighting the performing arts at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium.; and a Mountain Top Art Gallery at the Fahie Hill Watch House
