Changing Dynamics in Consumption, Marketing Impacting Businesses & Economies [VIDEO]

The revolution in information and technology at the turn of the 21st century, particularly the expanded use of New (Social) Media services, is having a significant impact on businesses, including the travel industry.

This observation was shared by former VP of Marketing at Virgin America Porter Gale, during the Oyster Global Conference held on Scrub Island resort (Jan. 16, 2013) under the theme “Thinking Outside The Box: Our Survival Depends On It”. The renowned public speaker, networker and author with over 20 years of experience in marketing, advertising and filmmaking says countries and businesses are now advised to develop social media campaigns and monitoring mechanisms as part of their marketing plans.

Paul Ferguson, President of Cizmic Consulting, a telecommunications / technology and business consulting company, that specializes in the emerging markets of the Caribbean and Latin America, equated ICT to basic infrastructures such as roads and electricity. He said this platform is critical to the creation of a knowledgebase society that can inevitably lead to a vibrant business environment.

The ICT sector offers job and service related opportunities for young people here in the Territory, according to, Stephen Vanterpool. He gave some out of the box ideas on business and career development here in the territory. Vanterpool who started his career as an IT consultant with Copyright Systems in the BVI and later worked for Microsoft’s Cloud Services business group, Office 365 and then Amazon to work on their Internet Movie Database is currently a leading software developer for Apple devices at NBC News Digital.
